Drilling

Today was our first day on the ice learning sampling techniques. I had a lot of fun drilling ice cores! We used a range of tools to make holes in the ice. The wind was very cold out on the ice and walking with equipment, even if we are not going too far is very tiring. It makes for a funny combination, overheating when walking in the big jackets, but then freezing when we stop to sample!

The day ended with a lecture on the meteorology of Antarctica, which was really good. I guess we are all very tired and tomorrow we will do it all over again!
